Deep Thought from Jeanne

OK now I know you are thinking, yeah, what's the joke? Jeanne does not do deep thoughts. And you would be right. But occasionally, as I am organizing my desk area and finding nuggets of information that are valuable to me and to my reading community, I uncover something worthwhile. So I wanted to share this with you. I can't take credit for it, just for passing it on.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY IN FIVE CHAPTERS
from the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying
Sogyal Rinpoche

1.  I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.

I am lost...I am hopeless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

2. I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I'm in the same place.
But it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

3. I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it there.
I still fall in...it's a habit.
My eyes are open
I know where I am
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

4. I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

5. I walk down another street.

Commentary by me: I love this. Has so many applications. My only suggestion is to add a step 6 for Baby Boomers.

6. What were we talking about?

Beautiful! So true for most of us and for me (mostly in my past) but I still ocassionally fall in the hole.

What are we talking about? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

TO Elizabeth: I have no idea. I have had it for ages typed on a piece of paper. I thought it was a great inspiration so I bring it out every now and again to show.I guess if you looked up the name of the book at the top you might find it. I have never seen any more than just this particular piece.
